JHNatural2024-02-10An incredible gormet gem! They deserve a Michelin star! It was a wonderful experience not just a meal. The nine small courses come from different areas in Mexico, some are original and some have transformed over time. Cathy explains everything very well in English and Oscar’s knowledge of flavors and peppers makes every dish amazing and different. I loved the hibiscus drink, the flavors of the taco El Pastor filler every part of my mouth. The Mole is the star for which he has won awards. We are foodies and had a wonderful interesting experience!Joshua M2024-02-09Absolutely amazing 6 course meal of high end regional cuisine from all over Mexico. Was impressed more and more with every course. And Oscar’s mole speaks for itself. Anyone visiting El Cuyo or anywhere within the Yucatán should join them for an incredible experience. Unbedingt reservieren.Kevin G2024-01-18DO NOT MISS OUT - this place is AMAZING This is our second visit - we loved it even more - and I have not idea how that was possible. Do not miss this place - the food is amazing - the history of the food is even more amazing - it was fun - lots of laughs over some great food - a taste of Mexico - they make it all look so easy - but I know it took hours of work to prepare and make it look this easy - ok - so the food is amazing - the staff is so much fun and great at their jobs - and the place itself is well worth the visit - loved ever moment - the night flew by!RachelM2024-01-18One of the most memorable meals ever... What is there to say that hasn't been said already? Cathy and Chef Oscar have created a tiny haven off the courtyard of their beautiful home in El Cuyo. Their warmth and focus on hospitality is evident the moment you walk in the door and see the beautifully appointed space, featuring textiles, pottery, and crafts collected from all over Mexico, and the gorgeous rustic wooden furniture and shelving built by Oscar himself. Each course is created and presented with love and there is not one misstep. Every bite was a journey and a delight. One of the best surprises was that we were seated with 3 strangers who have since become our friends - we couldn't ask for more than that. We will remember this meal forever, and cannot wait to return.Rae M2024-01-14Mexican Gastronomy At Its Finest This Mexican gem offers a culinary journey across the country with a diverse menu that captures the essence of regional flavors. Oscar and Cathy create each dish into a savory masterpiece. The ambiance and attentive service complement the exquisite cuisine, making it a must-visit for any food enthusiast. We will be back again & again! Thank you!!NorthStar637383585932024-01-13Guaranteed to be the highlight of your trip. El Chile Gordo is amazing food and even more amazing experience. You are provided many dishes that are incredible and they take you on a journey to all parts of Mexico. Oscar and Kathy also give interesting and entertaining history on each dish. Oscar also gets the patrons involved in making some one of the dishes. This is a very personal, quaint experience that will be the highlight of your trip. Remember to make a reservation well in advance!Gail R2024-01-10A one-of-a-kind experience of food, culture and geography with the most charming and gracious hosts In a tiny beach village in the north of the Yucatan, definitely off the beaten path, you will find El Cuyo, a place where there is little to do aside from chilling on the beach and slowing down. While its location makes it special, it is a culinary experience that makes it worth going back to again. Tucked in a lovely home that you might not notice is an incredible food experience that you won't find anywhere else. Oscar, a Mexican chef and Cathy, his British partner offer a culinary tour of Mexico through mouth-watering small plates that highlight the history and culture of various regions. They offer 6-8 seats per night at a large, heavy wooden square table. With 6 people you get a great view of Oscar making magic in the kitchen, while Cathy brings loads of energy and enthusiasm to sharing about the dishes and the preparation. You can't help but fall in love with this place as you spend 3 hours delightfully discovering tastes and combinations you won't find anywhere else. You bond over the food with your table mates, for us people we didn't know and won't see again but who were enthusiastic partners on this epic food journey. I love their philosophy which rejects the more is better idea (that they should add more chairs and more tables. With the small size you understand that you are truly part of something special. Our photos can't do justice to this experience but trust that if you are interested in food and culture, this is something you don't want to miss.Willie2024-01-06The best dinning experience in El Cuyo Dinning at El Chile Gordo is a discovery experience of pre-hispanic and post-hispanic cousine with a personal touch. If you visit El Cuyo, you have to visit El Chile Gordo.
